Day 9 - 21 Day Bible Reading Plan

John 9:

"The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed and received my sight." (v.11) This man's sight was restored after he went to Siloam and washed the mud off his eyes. What if he hadn't gone? I believe he would still be blind.

How many times does Jesus work in our lives but we are not willing to do our part to complete the work? Jesus provides a better job or a raise but we still can't pay our bills because we refuse to live on a budget. We miss out on a life-long marriage because we aren't willing to wait for a person who loves Jesus more than us. A neighbor asks a question that opens the door to talk about Jesus and we miss the opportunity because of fear or uncertainty.

As followers of Jesus we have work to do. If we read our Bibles regularly, we will know what that work is for our personal situation.

Mark 9:

"But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us. And Jesus said to him, 'If you can! All things are possible for the one who believes.' Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, 'I believe, help my unbelief!'" (v.22b-24)

There is nothing too hard for Jesus; all things are possible. Most church people would say they believe this but our lives are not characterized by that belief. We worry and wring our hands and have sleepless nights because we don't REALLY believe that Jesus can take care of our situation, which ultimately means take care of us. We worry about our health and our children and our finances as well as politics and wars and natural disasters as if the world is out of control.

At times it may seem so but God is ALWAYS in control...so help our unbelief, Lord!
